Dal 24 marzo al 23 giugno 2024 è possibile ammirare, per la prima volta in Italia, una selezione di quadri e disegni del Museo Berggruen di Berlino: più di 40 straordinarie opere di Picasso, Matisse, Klee, Giacometti e Cézanne dialogheranno con Giorgione, Sebastiano Ricci, Pietro Longhi, Giambattista Tiepolo e Canova, i capolavori delle Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia.
La mostra, dal titolo Affinità Elettive, è allestita alle Gallerie dell’Accademia e alla Giudecca alla Casa dei Tre Oci, nuova sede del Berggruen Institute Europe, riaperta per la prima volta al pubblico dopo il restauro.
L’esposizione è a cura di Giulio Manieri Elia e Michele Tavola, direttore e curatore delle Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia, e Gabriel Montua e Veronika Rudorfer direttore e curatrice del Museum Berggruen di Berlino.
Non è un caso se il titolo scelto per la mostra è Affinità elettive a evocare e sottolineare il potenziale che scaturisce dall’incontro di queste due importanti collezioni. Il titolo è ispirato al famoso romanzo di Johann Wolfgang Goethe, scrittore che trascorse alcuni mesi a Venezia durante il suo viaggio dalla Germania in Italia.
Alle Gallerie dell’Accademia 17 opere provenienti dal museo berlinese saranno integrate nel percorso permanente, invitando i visitatori a scoprire i capolavori in una sorta di caccia al tesoro. L’incontro tra due collezioni molto diverse tra loro – quella della più grande pittura Veneta delle Gallerie e quella di opere moderniste di Heinz Berggruen – darà vita a stimolanti spazi di dialogo.
Tra gli accostamenti più suggestivi vale la pena segnalare due capolavori assoluti: il ritratto di Dora Maar realizzato da Picasso accostato a La Vecchia di Giorgione, opere molto diverse ma entrambe riguardanti una relazione intima con il ritrattista. Inoltre due studi di Picasso per Les Demoiselles d’Avignon esposti accanto a una serie di bozzetti di Tiepolo: se da un punto di vista formale le differenze sono enormi, molti sono gli stimoli e le interpretazioni che vengono offerti al visitatore. O ancora, in dialogo tra loro, i due grandi scultori Giacometti e Canova.

Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia | dal 17 aprile al 15 settembre 2024

Willem de Kooning: uno dei più importanti artisti del XX secolo, esponente dell’Espressionismo Astratto insieme Pollock, Kline e Rothko. La mostra vuole esplorare per la prima volta l’impatto che ebbero sul lavoro di de Kooning i due soggiorni in Italia, avvenuti nel 1959 e nel 1969.
La produzione d’arte che realizzò in Italia e l’influenza dell’Italia sui suoi successivi dipinti, disegni e sculture realizzati in America, non è mai stata infatti considerata a fondo prima d’ora: l’effetto duraturo di questi due periodi creativi sarà rivelato attraverso un’esemplare selezione di lavori tra quadri e sculture che vanno dalla fine degli anni Cinquanta agli anni Ottanta. La mostra, a cura di Gary Garrels e Mario Codognato, è presentata in collaborazione con la Willem de Kooning Foundation, una fondazione privata basata sul patrimonio dell’artista che favorisce gli studi e l’approfondimento della vita e delle opere di Willem de Kooning attraverso la ricerca, le esposizioni e i programmi educativi.
La proposta didattica rivolta a gruppi e scuole vuole approfondire l’artista e questa particolare fase produttiva dell’artista olandese, dalla vita lunga e mai monotona.

Le Stanze della Fotografia | dal 28 marzo al 24 novembre 2024

Helmut Newton sbarca a Venezia con la più completa esposizione di opere che ripercorrono la sua intera vita umana e lavorativa. La retrospettiva Helmut Newton. Legacy, dal 28 marzo al 24 novembre 2024 alle Stanze della Fotografia, è curata da Matthias Harder, direttore della Helmut Newton Foundation, e da Denis Curti, direttore artistico de Le Stanze della Fotografia.
«Il suo passaggio in Laguna è documentato più volte, come si potrà vedere nel servizio per la rivista Queen del 1966 o nel ritratto ad Anselm Kiefer, immortalato in un affascinante palazzo sul Canal Grande. Dopo aver abitato in Australia e negli Stati Uniti, Newton si stabilisce in Europa, prima a Parigi e poi a Monte Carlo intensificando le sue visite a Venezia».
Sospesi tra acqua e cielo, gli scatti di Newton a Venezia enfatizzano ancora di più lo stile elegante e audace del fotografo. L’esposizione racconta la carriera di un protagonista del Novecento che ha lasciato un segno nella moda – come dimostrano le collaborazioni con la rivista Vogue e con stilisti quali Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Thierry Mugler e Chanel – ma anche nel nuovo modo di approcciarsi al nudo femminile, testimoniato nel suo celebre Big Nudes. Il libro cult del 1981 raccoglie i 39 scatti in bianco e nero, molti presenti in mostra, pionieri di una frontiera della fotografia non ancora esplorata, quella della gigantografia e degli scatti a grandezza umana.

De Kooning's travels in Italy. Encounters, techniques, successes.
In September 1959, Willem de Kooning traveled to Rome, where he would remain until early 1960. In new surroundings, he synthesized from all around him, observing classical art and Italian contemporary developments. He entered the city’s social and artistic life, encountering fresh ideas which led to innovative techniques. A significant body of black and white works on paper resulted from his Roman sojourn, signalling bold new directions in the paintings he made upon his return to New York. A decade later, de Kooning returned to Italy, where he worked with clay for the first time. The small, experimental figures that emerged would lead to his subsequent engagement with sculpture in the 1970s. This tour will examine three decades of de Kooning’s painting, sculpture, and drawing through the lens of these two Italian visits, showing the profound impact they had on his subsequent work.
